What Is Empower Work?
Empower Work is a national non-profit that envisions a world where everyone can thrive at work. When work actually works for people, every individual’s economic and emotional well-being increases. And there is a ripple effect: communities, companies, the economy, and our democracy, thrive.
We meet people in real time, at the exact moment they need help at work—providing support right at their fingertips. Through the power of wireless technology, trained peer counselors provide immediate guidance on any work issue via our text line. Empower Work’s wraparound support also includes strategic partnerships, human-centered technology, and accessible online resources.
Since launching in 2018, we’ve supported over 520,000 workers, with 91% reporting improved mental health and an average 26% increase in income within a year after connecting with a peer counselor.

Why It Matters
Difficult situations at work are commonplace, but finding the right resources to navigate them is difficult — this difficulty is only amplified for underrepresented communities who often face the most negative economic impacts. Over 95% of working Americans have faced at least one challenging situation at work, and research suggests half leave their job as result.
As a mission-driven nonprofit, Empower Work’s goal is to ensure that everyone has a baseline of support to help them navigate through their toughest work challenges. Empower Work is working to create a world where work actually works for people, individual’s needs are met, and their economic and emotional well-being can increase as a result.
